Kindergarten
Opportunities for active discovery and involvement in Kindergarten lay the foundation for future learning. Classroom learning centers provide specific spaces for art, music, sensory exploration, reading, listening, building and use of manipulatives. Children engage in meaningful activities, progressing at their own pace. Interacting with the learning centers nurtures the whole child and provides opportunities for group work, cooperation, and motor skills development, while developing skills that facilitate concepts in reading, writing, math and science.
Grades 1–5
The Lower School program builds on the appreciation for learning acquired in Kindergarten. Instruction emphasizes creativity and problem solving within a framework that meets or exceeds California State standards. Language arts, social studies and mathematics all share equal prominence, with continued focus on science, physical education and creative arts. The program is further enriched by regular visits to the public library and playground across the street from the school, as well as exploration of our neighborhood.
Dynamic programs that address the needs of all our students include: yoga, Brain Gym, Making Math Real, Lindamood-Bell, Slingerland Approach, Kinesthetic handwriting programs, sensory diet and social skills groups.
